Thinking big! - Since ‘Rio Summer‘ main objective is communicating our fashion and lifestyle value and identity to the world - through a sophisticated presentation of our beachwear brands to some of the biggest journalists and buyers of the planet -, I’ve decided to make this piece of article in English..

(- That’s the way I foud to also practice a worldwide communication).

* So, I’ll excuse myself in advance for all the grammar and vocabulary mistakes I’ll surely commit. (sorry).

Ok - Rio Summer 2008 has reunited the best Brazilian beachwear fashion brands in the city that wants to became one of the worlds biggest capital of this sector.

Rio de Janeiro was the headquarter of an event that, even before the first edition, had already caught international and national press attention. With initial investment of R$ 10 millions, Rio Summer will translate opportunities of business and reinforce Rio’s natural vocation: being the main reference in beach and summer fashion.

* In numbers: The international beachwear market moves over U$ 12 billions yearly. The Brazilian domestic market is the first one in the consumption of beachwear in the world: it moves R$ 2.5 billion, what represents fence de15% of the industry national textile.

According to Nizan Guanaes, the main organizer of the event, the Brazilian beachwear fashion can have the same ambition of companies as Vale, Havaianas, Gerdau, Grendene, Embraer and AmBev.

Nizan, who also organizes Bahia Carnival, X-Games and many others large-scale events, idealized the project and counted on the collaboration of the wife, Donata Meirelles, who was in charge of the 17 participant brands selection - Osklen, Rosa Chá, Blue Man, Isabela Capeto, Raia de Goye, Adriana Degreas, Salinas, Totem, Tryia, 284 (Donata’s fast fashion new brand), Cia Marítima, Cris Barros, Lenny and Carlos Miele.

To cover the event some big names of the international press and scene were invited. Tim Blanks, editor of; Hilary Alexander, director of The Daily Telegraphy; Scott Schuman, criator of the Sartorialist; Michael Roberts, fashion editor of Vanity Fair; Robb Young of the IHT (International Herald Tribune); Natalia Vodianova, Russian top model; Valentino, yes!, the Italian designer; and international buyers of big and good shops as to Harrods, Browns, Barneys, Jeffrey, including Sarah Lerfel, owner of the Colette of Paris, spent the last days in Rio de Janeiro attending to the Summer Fashion event.

The Copacabana Fort, witch has a privileged view of Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, was de scenario of the event. Actually, there couldn’t be a better place to present the Brazilian beachwear fashion.

Forte Copacabana

The majority of the fashion shows happened with a live Brazilian music presentation. Adriana Degreas, witch happened at the Copacabana Palace, had Bebel Gilberto singing during the show; Isabela Capeto made presented some original samba, commanded by Leandro Sapucahy; Carlos Miele had an AfroReggae presentation; and Totem had Junio Barreto presentation, a renowned underground artist.

All the shows had a very nice and sophisticated atmosphere, but the ones I liked best definitely were Cris Barros; Rosa Chá; Salinas and Adriana Degraes.
